چکیده

Nichel and Welch (9, 10), Broquisl et al. (1), Hill and Scott (6), and Welch et al. (16) found that ascorbic acid, a reducing agent, enhanced the for mation of citrovorum factor (CF) from folie acid (PGA). Nichel and Welch (9, 10), indicated that glucoascorbate augments the enzymic conversion of PGA to CF by liver tissue in vitro, while Welch et al. (16), administering glucoascorbate parenterally to rats, disclosed that the analog is as active as ascorbic acid in this respect. Sokoloff et al. (14) found that a Sherman-LaMer diet, supplemented with 1 or 2 per cent of D-glucoascorbic acid, did not produce any apparent toxic effect on rats and mice but lowered the ascorbic acid concentrations of the blood plasma and certain tissues to nearly zero in 15-20 days and decreased the urinary excretion of the citrovorum factor in rats. The present investigation concerns the effect of continuous administration of nontoxic doses, 0.75 and 1 per cent, of o-glucoascorbic acid on acute transplanted lymphocytic leukemia and spon taneous lymphocytic leukemia in mice.

Production of a Scurvy-like Condition by Feeding of a Compound Structurally Related to Ascorbic Acid

The feeding of glucoascorbic acid, an analog of ascorbic acid, to mice and cotton rats caused the production of a condition exhibiting many of the changes characteristic of scurvy as seen in susceptible species. The condition was not prevented or cured by ascorbic acid, but was cured by removal of the glucoascorbic acid from the ration. The condition was produced in mice fed a highly purified r...

A Highly Sensitive Kinetic Spectrophotometric Method for the Determination of Ascorbic Acid in Pharmaceutical Samples

In this study, a new reaction system for quantitative determination of ascorbic acid was introduced. The developed method is based on inhibitory effect of ascorbic acid on the Orange G-bromate system. The change in absorbance was followed spectrophotometrically at 478 nm. The dependence of sensitivity on the reaction variables including reagents concentration, temperature and time was investiga...

Effect of Supplemental Ascorbic Acid on the Aerobic Capacity in Children

Introduction: ascorbic acid is a water-soluble vitamin solved in water that acts as a helper of some the enzymes in the reactions of energy metabolism. Thus, the study aims to investigate the use of supplemental ascorbic acid on the aerobic and anaerobic capacity of the children.Methodology: Participants of this quasi-experimental study were 18 children in Esfahan who were randomly selected and...

Ascorbic Acid Improves Vascular Permeability in Experimental-Induced Diabetic Rats

Background: The most devastating manifestations of diabetes mellitus are vascular complications. Although there are many factors involved in the pathogenesis of diabetic vasculopathy, many studies suggest a role for glucose–induced oxidative stress. Studies in animal models, have demonstrated that the administration of antioxidants restores normal endothelial functions. The study was designed t...

Effect of ascorbic acid and anaerobic exercise on PTZ-induced seizure in adult male rats

Introduction: The concentration and action of ascorbic acid in the central nervous system as a vitamin and also a neuromodulator have exercise-induced fluctuations. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of anaerobic exercise alone and associated with the consumption of ascorbic acid as a non pharmacological treatment for reducing seizures and increasing seizure thresholds. ...
